While Ms Lagarde’s assessment of the outlook in today’s press conference was slightly less gloomy than Mr Draghi’s in October, this does not change our view that the ECB will loosen policy again during 2020. After all, policy would need to be eased even if inflation rises in line with the Bank’s own, new forecasts.
