Trump, tariffs and potential trigger points

The steel and aluminium import tariffs announced by the US yesterday are unlikely to have a major impact on emerging economies but fears that they might presage a broader shift towards protectionism have nonetheless rattled EM markets today. With this in mind, there are several other potential flashpoints to watch for over the coming months, including the conclusion of the current round of Nafta talks next week and the US Treasury report on foreign exchange practices which is due in April.
