Commodities Weekly: China “Mega Dam” context; tweaked OPEC assumptions

China’s new “Mega Dam” project will obviously require huge amounts of raw material and will generate more renewable electricity than most countries. However, anyone hoping that the project will make a sizeable dent in China’s overcapacity-related exports of steel is likely to be disappointed. And while the project is significant enough to move the needle from a renewable perspective at a global level, the breakneck speed of the rollout of other renewables in China means that it won’t have as stark an impact on the domestic renewables picture as many might assume.
