Labour Force Survey (Jan.)

The modest rebound in employment in January, which was not enough to reverse completely the slump last December, suggests that bad weather isn't the only factor depressing labour market conditions. With an export recovery still proving elusive and housing construction cooling, we expect employment gains over the coming months to be modest. Overall, this latest jobs report supports our view that the Bank of Canada is inching closer to an easing bias.
