Consumer Price Index (Aug. 12)

The official 'core' inflation figure, which nudged down to 1.6% in August from 1.7% in July, is likely to decline further in the coming months as external and domestic risks dampen GDP growth. With unemployment likely to rise as a result, we expect the Bank of Canada soon to drop all pretences about removing policy stimulus.
