UK Drop-In: Spring Budget 2024 – Jeremy Hunt goes shopping for votes

The UK Chancellor may use his 6th March Spring Budget to splash the cash and try to win voter support for the beleaguered Conservative party ahead of an expected election this year. But will his spending plans make much difference to the British economy or is it just storing up problems for further ahead?

Economists from our UK Economics, Housing and Markets teams hosted this special Budget Day briefing on what’s in the Chancellor’s statement and its macroeconomic and market implications. During this 20-minute briefing, the team answered client questions on the UK outlook and addressed key issues, including:

  • Whether Hunt’s spending plans will boost the UK economy;
  • How the Budget could affect the UK housing market;
  • What the gilt market will make of the Budget.
