The lack of progress in forming a new government in Lebanon has pushed the country further into the depths of it’s economic, humanitarian, and political crises. Social unrest risks boiling over as domestic prices surge and poverty rises, and the lack of political will to pass critical forms will delay much-need foreign financial assistance. Elsewhere, Tunisia’s Prime Minister-designate Hichem Mechichi put forward his new government to parliament this week, but there is no guarantee that it will be approved by parliament, further extending the period of policy paralysis.
