Bright start to the year as global tensions ease

This is the first edition of our new monthly Latin America Markets Monitor. The purpose of this publication is to analyse the developments in local markets over the past month and give an update on our key forecasts.

Latin American markets have started the year on a positive note, with benchmark equity indices rallying by 5% on the back of improved global risk appetite. Going forward, there is scope for further gains in asset prices, however markets will be in for a bumpy ride. The upside for currencies, in particular, now looks limited.
