Will the immigration crackdown hit economic growth?

President Donald Trump’s revised travel ban will have little impact on the wider economy. But his plans for a broader crackdown on immigration, which also include building a wall on the Mexican border, could become a more significant restraint on labour force growth and, consequently, the economy’s potential growth rate. A more general tightening of border security could also dissuade foreign visitors to the US, resulting in a decline in tourism revenues and possibly business investment.
