Any hopes that the Chancellor would come up with a new and innovative approach to boosting the UK’s housing supply in today’s Budget were soundly disappointed. In fact, on the issue of planning reform and fresh measures to boost supply, the Chancellor did little more than kick the can down the road. In the meantime, his inability to resist abolishing stamp duty for most first-time buyers will simply put more pressure on house prices, especially in the most expensive parts of the country.
