Widening trade deficit not a cause for concern

India’s monthly trade deficit widened to its highest level in over two years in April. But this was in large part due to temporary factors. Looking ahead, with imports of key commodities such as gold and oil likely to stay in check, the overall trade deficit should remain at a comfortable level by past standards.
