Which states are set to shine?

There are vast differences in the economic prospects of India’s 36 states and union territories. The three richest large states – Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat – should continue to drive growth. But a handful of smaller, poorer states such as Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan are likely to be the fastest growing. A shift towards more populist policymaking means we are less upbeat on prospects for Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
