What to expect in 2019

Economic growth in India has peaked in this cycle, but we expect it to remain strong ahead of the general election in the first half of 2019. Thereafter, fiscal policy will need to be tightened and, with investment also likely to weaken, economic growth will slow more significantly towards the end of the year. Meanwhile, an election victory for Prime Minister Modi could provide space to re-energise his reform agenda after a lacklustre 2018.
