Romania Interest Rate Announcement (Feb.)

The National Bank of Romania left its policy rate on hold again today, at 6.50%, and despite the economy falling into recession at the end of last year, we think a return to monetary easing is still some way off. We maintain our forecast for the next rate cut to arrive in August, and for the policy rate to end 2026 at 5.75%, which is a more hawkish view than the consensus.
