Surging case numbers may threaten US equities’ outperformance

The sectoral composition of the US stock market helped it to hold up better than its European counterpart as the coronavirus spread around the world earlier in the year. But the more recent trend of surging case numbers on one side of the Atlantic but not the other is a key risk to its long-running outperformance.
