John Higgins is Capital Economics’ Chief Markets Economist, with overall responsibility for our Capital Daily, Global Markets, Asset Allocation and FX Markets services. Prior to joining the company in 2008, he worked at Stone & McCarthy Research Associates, where he was Senior Economist covering the euro area, and before that at Nomura International plc in London, where he was Head of Economic and Credit Research within the fixed income division. John is a graduate of the University of Exeter.

Jonas Goltermann
Deputy Chief Markets Economist
Jonas Goltermann is the Deputy Chief Markets Economist at Capital Economics and heads up the FX Markets service. Jonas joined Capital Economics in 2019 from ING Wholesale Banking, where he worked in the Global Macro Research team. Before that, he worked as an economist at the Bank of England and the UK government’s Department for International Development. He holds degrees from Northwestern University, the University of Edinburgh, and the College of Europe.

Senior Markets Economist
Oliver Allen is a Senior Economist on our Global Markets team. He writes primarily for our Asset Allocation service, but also contributes towards our Capital Daily, Global Markets and Long Run services. He began working for Capital Economics in 2016 and was previously in our UK and Commodities teams. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Leeds and a master’s degree in financial economics from Birkbeck College, University of London.

Thomas Mathews
Senior Markets Economist
Thomas Mathews is a Senior Markets Economist focusing on bonds and equities as part of our Global Markets Service. Prior to joining Capital Economics in 2020 he worked at the Reserve Bank of Australia, in both financial markets and economics departments. Thomas holds a Master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics, and undergraduate qualifications in economics, mathematics and philosophy.

Jonathan Petersen
Senior Markets Economist
Jonathan Petersen joined Capital Economics in October 2020 and is a Markets Economist in the Global Markets team. He joined from Vanguard’s economic research team, where he specialized in currencies and global trade. Before that, he was a strategy consultant in Deloitte Consulting’s mergers and acquisitions practice. He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and Corporate Strategy from Boston College and a masters degree in Economics from the University of Edinburgh.

James is an Assistant Economist on our Markets desk, contributing to the Global Markets, FX Markets and Capital Daily services. He joined the company in 2021, having previously worked within the Multi-Asset division of Schroders. James's coverage of financial markets has ranged from the impact of quantitative tightening on US bonds and equities to the implications of a weaker renminbi for EM currencies. His work is often picked up by leading global media outlets including The Economist, Bloomberg, and Reuters. James has a degree in Economics from the University of Bath.

Markets Economist
Adam has been with Capital Economics since September 2020 and is an Economist on our Global Markets team. He writes primarily for our Asset Allocation service, but also contributes towards our Capital Daily and Global Markets services. Since joining the company, Adam has also covered the UK and Indian economies, as well as commodity markets. His views are frequently sought by leading global media outlets, including the Financial Times, Bloomberg and Reuters. Adam holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Bath.

Diana Iovanel
Markets Economist
Diana Iovanel is an Economist in the Global Markets team at Capital Economics. She joined the firm in August 2022 from bfinance, where she worked in investment manager selection across asset classes, with a focus on equity and fixed income. Before that, she worked at East Capital Asset Management in equity research and, prior to that, at Russell Investments in multi-manager portfolio construction and equity manager research. She holds an M.Sc. in Economics from Stockholm School of Economics and a B.A. in Economics from University College London.

Filippos joined Capital Economics in September 2022 as an Economist in the Markets team. Previously he had four years of experience working as a Europe Economist and a commodity Analyst. He has an Economics and Politics BSc from the University of Bristol and an Economics MSc from University College London.

Bradley Saunders joined Capital Economics in September 2022 as an Assistant Economist on the graduate training scheme. He writes primarily for the FX service, but also contributes towards our Global Markets and Capital Daily services. Prior to this, Bradley worked with the Commodities team, covering energy, metals, and agriculturals markets. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Bath.
