The Malaysian ringgit has appreciated steadily against the US dollar this year and is set to be Asia’s best-performing currency in 2025. While the appreciation has raised competitiveness concerns, these look overstated: the real effective exchange rate has been broadly stable and is still below its long-term average. Robust electronics demand will continue to support exports and broader GDP growth in 2026.
