Is the US about to withdraw from NAFTA?

Only a few weeks after the Treasury passed up the chance to label China a currency manipulator, a new report from Politico suggests that the White House is close to finalising an Executive Order on withdrawing from NAFTA, the free-trade agreement with Canada and Mexico. So is President Donald Trump serious about protectionism after all? We’re not convinced that he is, but there is no denying that, even if it is only a negotiating tactic, triggering the formal withdrawal process for NAFTA would be a step into the unknown.
