Latin America set for a deep recession

The outbreak of the coronavirus in Latin America has developed rapidly over the past few weeks. This Chart Book will focus on the most timely measures of activity to get a better sense of the immediate economic fallout. As things stand, we think that the fall in GDP in the region this year will be as steep as it was during the Global Financial Crisis and the region’s debt crisis in the early 1980s.
