New Home Sales (Jan.)

New home sales rose for the second consecutive month in January to 923,000 annualised. But rising mortgage interest rates and tight inventory point to a slowdown over 2021. Indeed, mortgage applications for home purchase dropped to a nine-month low last week, although that will partly reflect the severe weather in parts of the South. We expect sales will end 2021 at around 830,000 annualised.
