Housing Starts (Jul.)

The lacklustre performance of housing starts seen since the start of year continued in July, with a marginal gain of under 1% m/m in both single and multifamily starts. Single-family starts are being held back by constraints on the supply side and weakening housing demand. So while the recent drop in lumber prices may help somewhat, starts will see only gradual gains this year.
