Housing Starts (Dec.)

The surge in housing starts in December in part reflects a jump in the volatile multifamily sector and favourable weather conditions. But single-family starts are well-placed for another strong year. A lack of existing home inventory and low mortgage interest rates will support demand, and a shift to building cheaper homes will help starts make steady upward progress over 2020.
