Bank of Japan opening the door to December rate hike

Recent communication from the Bank of Japan has left the door open to a rate hike in December. However, it’s not clear whether the Bank has already gathered sufficient information on the likely strength of pay hikes in next year’s spring wage negotiations. Unless Governor Ueda soon provides some clear signals that this has indeed been the case, we’re sticking to our forecast of a January hike.
