India Weekly: India hoping to seal a better US trade deal than Asian peers

President Trump's comments this week that a trade deal with India is "close" but that it may be along the "same line" as the one announced with Indonesia on Wednesday raises the prospect that India could also be hit with a US tariff of around 20%. That would be disappointing for the Modi government, which thought it had established a strong rapport with the White House. What's more, India now faces the additional threat of high "secondary tariffs" from the US if it continues buying discounted Russian oil.
