How important is Africa for agriculturals?

Given Africa’s large size and geographic diversity, most of the world’s key agricultural commodities are produced somewhere on the continent. In this Commodities Watch, we first discuss the importance of Africa for global agricultural commodity markets, then we focus on two markets in particular, cocoa and rice, where Africa plays a major role in fundamentals. Finally, we conclude with some thoughts about whether the continent can become a bigger player in agricultural commodity markets in the future.
