South Africa’s municipal elections next week are set to deliver another setback for the African National Congress (ANC), with the Democratic Alliance (DA) likely to make gains. We think fears about the Government of National Unity’s (GNU) stability are overdone, though, and the macroeconomic impact of the vote is likely to be limited. Borrowing costs will remain contained and the recovery on track.
