Too low for too long?

Following the Bank of England’s announcement of forward guidance, there have been a number of warnings about the dangers of a further prolonged period of very low interest rates. We think these concerns are overblown. Low rates are needed to aid the recovery, while most of the risks of loose monetary policy have been exaggerated or can be reduced without recourse to higher interest rates.
