Why the Bihar state election matters

The state election in Bihar in November will be the first since the deterioration in relations between India and the US. Bihar also happens to be one of India’s most agrarian states. A strong performance for Prime Minister Modi’s BJP (as part of the National Democratic Alliance) would be taken as an endorsement of its refusal to open up India’s agriculture sector in trade negotiations.
