One of Vietnam’s key appeals to foreign investors is its political stability relative to other low-income countries in the region. Given this, the unexplained ousting of President Vo Van Thuong of Vietnam earlier this week is a concern. If investor perceptions of Vietnam shift as a result of the recent political instability and uncertainty, it could lead to a drop in investment and harm the country’s long-run prospects.
