Nigeria became the latest country to face President Trump's wrath this week. For now, there are reasons to think that any economic impact will be limited. But it’s another reason for African governments to question the US’s reliability as a partner, leaving the door open to China to expand its influence in the region. Meanwhile, the highlight next week will be South Africa’s Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement. Given the improvement in the budget position and sharp fall in bond yields, it is likely to be a more staid affair than the Budget earlier this year.
