UK businesses report strong trade after lockdown reopening

Ruth Gregory, senior UK economist at consultancy Capital Economics, said that consumers were “in position to power the recovery as the early signs are that households are willing to go back to pubs and restaurants”. She forecast that the staggered reopening of the economy would lift gross domestic product to about 2-3 per cent below its pre-pandemic level by July, up from a gap of about 8 per cent in February.
