Early data indicate big, but short-lived, housing impact

The largest fall in new home buyer traffic on record in April supports our below-consensus call for a 50% q/q drop in new home sales in the second quarter. But the share of households seeing now as a good time to buy a home saw only a modest decline in March, and that provides hope that the housing market will bounce back once the disruption from the coronavirus has passed.
