Solid job gains will drive unemployment rate lower

Our econometric model points to a 210,000 gain in non-farm payrolls in December, which would be well above the average monthly gain of 174,000 over the first 11 months of last year. Manufacturing employment growth has been particularly strong over the past few months and services is still enjoying a small boost from the unwinding of the disruption caused by the hurricanes.
