Fears of currency debasement buoy the euro

The strength of the euro against the dollar in September coincided with a change in investors’ perceptions about the relative outlook for unconventional monetary policy on either side of the Atlantic. We do not expect the support that the change has provided to the euro to last. This would leave Europe’s single currency vulnerable to renewed focus on its fiscal problems, as well as to an increase in risk aversion.
