Commodity prices fall despite support from the Fed

The Fed’s surprise decision to maintain its current pace of asset purchases for a while longer had little effect on commodity prices. Indeed, the Fed’s caution partly reflects lingering uncertainty about the strength of the US economy, and this has had a negative effect on the prices of industrial commodities. What’s more, the prospect of the shutdown of the US federal government, which has now taken place, also weighed on commodity prices.
