Flagging economy will prompt more rate cuts

The futures market indicates that most investors are now convinced by the Bank of Canada's view that the January interest rate cut will be enough to prevent the economy from being derailed by the collapse in oil prices. In contrast, we think that the weakness of economic growth will prompt the Bank to take further action, with the key lending rate falling from 0.75% to 0.25% before year end.
