Canada Retail Sales (Feb. 2025)

The moderate decline in retail sales volumes in February was probably due to the unseasonably severe winter weather rather than the recent slump in sentiment, with the latest flash estimate implying that retail sales volumes rebounded strongly in March. That will provide a strong handover to the second quarter and provides some support to our view that GDP growth will slow rather than collapse as US tariffs take a toll.
