New data this week showed Chinese lending to Africa fell again in 2024. But while lending is slowing, trade is not. And we think it's more likely that China-Africa ties deepen rather than weaken from here. Next week, we expect the South African Reserve Bank to pause its monetary easing cycle, reflecting caution about the recent uptick in inflation. But we remain confident that rates will ultimately fall further than most anticipate this year.
