Monthly GDP & International Trade (Jan.)

The stagnation in GDP in January shows that the economy was weak even before people started worrying about the coronavirus. And our more timely measures of activity, such as weekly cinema sales, suggest that it may have started to lose more momentum in late February. This all raises the possibility that today’s coordinated policy response from the Bank of England and the Treasury may not be the last.
