GDP (May)

The recent resilience of GDP to the drag from the high rate of inflation probably won’t last and there is still a big risk that the economy falls into recession. Even so, the surprisingly strong rise in GDP in May might encourage the Bank of England to raise interest rates by 50 basis points (bps), rather than 25bps, at its next policy meeting in August.
