ASEAN still struggling for purpose

The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), which has just concluded its annual meeting in Laos, has little chance of becoming the kind of single market and production base which could one day allow it to rival China as the workshop of the world. Despite this, economic prospects remain good, and we expect South East Asia to remain one of the rare bright spots of the global economy over the next few years.
