How would a deal with the IMF help Pakistan

As the price for a deal with Pakistan, the IMF is likely to demand a further sharp tightening in fiscal and monetary policy as well as structural reforms aimed at raising more revenue and improving the business environment. Although growth is likely to slow sharply in the near term, policy tightening and structural reforms should lead to an improvement in the country’s longer-term prospects.
