US Consumer Sentiment (Sep.)

Consumer sentiment fell back to a four-month low of 55.4 in September, from 58.2, as fears over both higher inflation and labour market weakness weighed on households. That leaves the University of Michigan’s sentiment index even further below its long-run average at 85.0, although it has been below 80 consistently since mid-2021 without any obvious knock-on negative impact on actual consumer spending.
