US bank stocks may start catching up, but not just yet

Given our view that economic growth will disappoint, we doubt that the positive mood accompanying US banks’ earnings reports will endure over the rest of 2023. But when the outlook brightens, we suspect that bank stocks will recover, helped by lower but still positive interest rates and by their low valuations.
