Mortgage Applications (Dec.)

A second consecutive increase in home purchase applications in December suggests that declining mortgage rates have allowed buyer demand to bottom out. Indeed, as we expect mortgage rates to continue to fall, the trough in applications is now probably behind us. But with house prices falling and the economy weakening, housing demand is unlikely to rise much from its current level.
