Malaysia: Anwar failing to make progress on reform

Anwar Ibrahim is now just over three years into his first term as prime minister of Malaysia. The restoration of political stability under his premiership is welcome, and he also deserves credit for helping Malaysia to emerge as a regional hub for AI data centres. That said, progress on his broader reform agenda has been limited. Given his weak position in parliament, we do not anticipate this changing soon, and we remain cautious on the country’s medium-term prospects.
