China’s rise up the manufacturing value chain is putting increasing pressure on Korean producers. The impact has been particularly pronounced in batteries, petrochemicals and shipbuilding, where Korean firms have lost significant global market share. And while automakers have held up better so far, they could yet suffer in the face of greater competition from Chinese producers.
