Drop-In: What next for US tariffs?

Speakers:

The US tariff landscape is shifting once again. The "Section 122" global tariff expires on 24th July, set to be replaced by a new batch of country-specific "Section 301" tariffs. And with new product-specific tariffs in the pipeline, and President Trump invoking trade legislation from the 1930s to make new tariff threats, the US tariff regime could be about to get messier still.

Join senior economists from our global and US macro teams for a special online briefing on Monday 27th July at 11.00 ET/16.00 BST as they make sense of the latest tariff developments, discuss what they mean for the world economy, and consider what the future holds for US trade policy. During this 20-minute session, the team will be answering your questions as they address key issues, including:

  • What the switch from Section 122 to 301 means for overall US tariff levels, and for tariff rates at the country level;
  • What the changes in tariff policy mean for the US economy and world trade;
  • What other tools beyond Section 301 could the US administration use to impose tariffs, and to what end.
