January pay round should again pass without event

The latest information on pay settlements suggests that workers are gaining the upper hand in pay bargaining. But while the risk of a substantial pick-up in pay growth is the biggest in a few years, there are good reasons why the feared acceleration in pay growth may yet again to fail to materialise.
