Colombia: Peace deal will improve medium-term outlook

The likely signing of a final peace agreement between the Colombian government and the country’s largest insurgent group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), will be an historic milestone and it should provide a boost to the economy’s medium-term economic outlook. However, it won’t offset the current downturn and the fiscal costs of reintegrating the FARC into Colombian society are likely to add to the government’s already strained finances.
